Kim Dooha: 84 Exhibitions Across Two Decades
Since his first exhibition at a small gallery in Gyeongju in 2005, Kim Dooha has presented his work in 84 exhibitions — 42 solo and 42 group shows and art fairs — across Korea and Japan.
The journey began in Daegu and Gyeongju, moved through Seoul's major art institutions including COEX, Seoul Arts Center, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and eventually found a new home in the Kansai region of Japan from 2017 onward.
Seoul Years (2005–2016)
During the Seoul period, Kim established himself through persistent exhibition practice: five consecutive years at SEOULPHOTO (2010–2014), participation in the Seoul Pyeongchang Biennale (2013), and solo shows at Canon Gallery and Gallery Topic. The ordinarygirl series, with its unflinching portraits of young women, became a cultural phenomenon and was exhibited across multiple venues.
A pivotal chapter opened in Jeju (2015–2016), where solo exhibitions at Damhwahun, Salad & Mimi, and Dulhana Gallery connected his organic-crops work to the volcanic landscape of the island.
Japan Chapter (2017–present)
Relocating to Osaka marked a profound shift. Through galleries like KAZE ART PLANNING, BE= Lab & Gallery, and SPECTACLE KITAHAMA, Kim built an entirely new network. Art fairs including ART OSAKA (2019, 2020, 2022), AiPHT at Park Hotel Tokyo, and ART NAGOYA brought his work to broader Japanese and international audiences.
Notable milestones in Japan include the Another Self-Portrait exhibition at &ISLAND (2022), the BLOOM show at COEX Seoul (2022), and collaborative exhibitions at Nagatei Gallery in Tokyo.
Looking Ahead
With 2025 exhibitions already confirmed at Ueda Gallery (Tokyo) and KAZE ART PLANNING (Osaka), and new opportunities emerging in Europe, Kim Dooha's exhibition practice continues to expand — carrying with it twenty years of accumulated vision.
